Candle Ornament

This pattern is a the perfect stashbusting christmas decoration to use up those ball ends from your year of crafting. There are two options for the pattern, a stuffed version or a flat piece. This pattern is aimed at a beginners and is written in US and UK terminology. This pattern is designed to work with DK weight yarn, but can be made with any yarn with a matching hook. What you need:

  • MC: Main Colour (MC) : 11m (22m for stuffed)
  • Yellow (Y): 3m (6m for stuffed)
  • Orange (O): 3m (6m for stuffed)
  • Red (R): 3m (6m for stuffed)
  • Small ammount of stuffing (optional)
  • 3mm Crochet Hook, Note gauge in this pattern is not important. your hook should match your yarn.
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Markers

All stitches are SC/DC (US/UK terminology) stitches. For this pattern the colour yarn, given in () above is used to denote stitches.

Pattern

R1: in MC, CH8, in 2nd from hook MC, 6MC. CH1 and turn. [7]

R2-19: 7MC, Ch1 and turn. [7]

R20: 7MC, Fasten off. [7]

R21: attach O yarn to 3rd stitch of R20. 1O, 1Y, 1O. CH1 and turn. [3]

R22: 1O, 1Y, 1O. CH1 and turn. [3]

R23: In first stitch make both 1R and 1Y, 1Y, In last stitch make both 1Y and 1R. CH1 and turn. [5]

R24: In first stitch make both 1R and 1O, 3Y, In last stitch make both 1O and 1R. CH1 and turn. [7]

R25: 1R, 1O, 3Y, 1O, 1R. CH1 and turn. [7]

R31: RDEC, 1R, 1O, 1R, RDEC. CH1 and turn. [5]

R32: RDEC, 1R, RDEC, CH1 and turn. [3]

R33: RDEC, RDEC. CH1 and turn. [2]

R34: RDEC. Fasten off and weave in ends. [1]

Chart

Assembly Stuffed:

  1. Make second candle.
  2. SC or DC through both layers around. Make 3 stitches in each corner. SL into first SC.
  3.  In desired stitch SL yarn in silver. CH30. SL into the same stitch. Fasten off and weave in ends 

Assembly flat:

1. Slip stitch around. Make 3 stitches in each corner. SL into first stitch.

2. In desired stitch SL yarn in silver. CH30. SL into the same stitch. Fasten off and weave in ends

3. Block the ornament to flatten.
