Stash Buster Tree

This pattern is a the perfect stash busting Christmas decoration to use up those ball ends from your year of crafting. There are two options for the pattern, a stuffed (rag-doll) version or a flat piece. This pattern is aimed at a beginners and is written in US and UK terminology. This pattern is designed to work with DK weight yarn, but can be made with any yarn with a matching hook. The stash-busting advent calendar will be released late November! What you need

  • Yellow (Y): 3m (6m for stuffed)
  • Blue (B): 6m (12m for stuffed)
  • Red (R): 11m (22m for stuffed)
  • Silver (S): 3m
  • Green (G): 3m (6m for stuffed)
  • Small amount of stuffing (optional)
  • 3mm Crochet Hook, Note gauge in this pattern is not important. your hook should match your yarn.
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Markers

All stitches are SC/DC (US/UK terminology) stitches. For this pattern the colour yarn, given in () above is used to denote stitches.

Pattern

R1: CH2, in 2nd from hook CH1 and turn. [1]

R2: 3G. CH1 and turn. [3]

R3: 2G in first stitch, G, 2G in last stitch. CH1 and turn. [5]

R4: 2G in first stitch, 3G, 2G in last stitch. CH1 and turn. [7]

R5: 2G in first stitch, G, 5G in last stitch. CH1 and turn. [9]

R6: SL 2. CH1 in 3rd stitch of R5, G, 4G. CH1 and turn. Leave remaining stitches unworked. [5]

R7: 2G in first stitch, 3G, 2G in last stitch. CH1 and turn. [7]

R8: 2G in first stitch, 5G, 2G in last stitch. CH1 and turn. [9]

R9: 2G in first stitch, 7G, 2G in last stitch. CH1 and turn. [11]

R10: 2G in first stitch, 9G, 2G in last stitch. CH1 and turn. [13]

R11:SL 2. CH1 in 3rd stitch of R10, G, 8G. CH1 and turn. Leave remaining stitches unworked. [5]

R12: 2G in first stitch, 7G, 2G in last stitch. CH1 and turn. [11]

R13: 2G in first stitch, 9G, 2G in last stitch. CH1 and turn. [13]

R14: 2G in first stitch, 11G, 2G in last stitch. CH1 and turn. [15]

R15: 2G in first stitch, 13G, 2G in last stitch. Fasten off and weave in ends. [17]

R16: Attach brown yarn to the 8th stitch of R15. CH1 and 1B in same stitch. 2B. CH1 and turn. leave remaining stitches unworked. [3]

R17: 3B. CH1 and turn. [3]

R18: 3B. Fasten off and weave in ends. [3]

Assembly Stuffed

1. Make two tree bodies.

2. Add tinsel to each tree with your choice of yarn. Embroider diagonally  along each tree.

3. Add decorations with french Knots and a variety of yarns.

4. Add a tree topper, either embroidered star or french knot.

5. Attach green yarn to the base of the tree trunk with a slip stitch. SC/DC through both layers around to top of the tree. Add 3 stitches in each corner. At R1. CH45, SL into R1 (Or desired loop length). SC/DC through both layers down to the trunk. Make 3 stitches in each corner. Stuff as you go.

6. Swap to brown yarn. SC/DC around trunk making 3SC in each corner, stuffing as you go. SL into first green SC/DC. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Assembly flat

  1. Attach green yarn to the base of the tree trunk with a slip stitch. SC/DC through both layers around to top of the tree. Add 3 stitches in each corner. At R1. CH45, SL into R1 (Or desired loop length). SC/DC through both layers down to the trunk. Make 3 stitches in each corner.

2. Add tinsel to each tree with your choice of yarn. Embroider diagonally  along each tree.

3. Add decorations with French Knots and a variety of yarns.

4. Add a tree topper, either embroidered star or French knot.
